Provide expert technical support to Protected Satellite Communications (Milstar/AEHF) operational users and stakeholders in developing solutions and resolving issues related to satellite to terminal communications, terminals, mission operations, and technical architectures with principal emphasis on end-to-end systems engineering and the Air Force Command Post Terminals (AFCPT), but may include other Protected Satellite Communication terminal types: - Provide expertise and assistance in operating and maintaining the AFCPT, Milstar AFCPT Terminal Remoting System (MAFTRS), Time Distribution Sub-System Pre-Processor (TDSPP) and other related peripheral equipment. - Advise sustainment customers and system users on proper satellite terminal system operation. - Proactively support and maintain an open communication path between the sustainment engineering team, development engineering team, operational users, and system stakeholders to address operational issues and improve user experience including: Combatant Commands, Major Commands, and subordinate commands; Regional Satcom Support Centers (RSSCs); MILSATCOM Systems Directorate (AFSPC/SMC/MC); contractor development and sustainment teams; and other agencies as required. - Lead or participate in problem resolution working groups relating to operational uses of Milstar/AEHF, working with operational users, sustainment engineering team, and development engineering team. - Provide onsite engineering support at multiple user locations as tasked by customer. - Assist personnel in identification/description of system architectures in current operations by military user communities. - Support Military Space Business Development Team through providing insight into Military Satellite Communications mission area needs, and operational concepts. - Support Military Space / Military Satellite Communications Advance Programs and AEHF Development Program in conducting analyses and assessments to facilitate the development, integration, and transition to new and/or modified systems.

*Position will commence in Colorado Springs, CO for two to four months then transition to Patch Barracks, Germany, for approximately three years. The transition to Patch Barracks, Germany, is contingent on the candidate successfully completing the Technical Expert Status Accreditation (TESA) process for being authorized to work in Germany per the NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).

Willingness to work extensive hours and travel (25%), including weekend work, as necessary to support system user needs.

Basic Qualifications Applicant must have expert operational knowledge and significant experience (at least 5 years) working with the Transportable Air Force Command Post Terminal:

  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex operational issues within the satellite terminal and with ancillary baseband, cryptography, and user interface equipment.

  • Utilizing various electrical test equipment to inspect / assess satellite terminal performance, functionality, and health: such as Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, Oscilloscope, Digital Voltmeter, Logic Analyzer, and Breakout Boxes.

  • Operating and configuring U.S. crypto equipment, hubs, personal computers such as Milstar Messaging Application (MMA) software, Simple Key Loader (SKL), MAFTRS, and TDSPP.

System-level knowledge of (Milstar/AEHF) Protected Satellite Communication Systems.

Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Word and PowerPoint Proficiency; MS Project and Excel Familiarity)

Candidate selected must have a current DoD Top Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain a SCI Access.

Willingness to work extensive hours and travel (25%), including weekend work, as necessary to support system user needs.

Candidate must be willing to subsequently relocate to Patch Barracks, Germany for approximately three years, after starting position in Colorado Springs, CO.

Desired skills - Experience operating and maintaining other (Milstar/AEHF) Protected Satellite Communications terminals and working with their users, e.g. SCAMP, SMART-T, FAB-T, Global ASNT. - Expert understanding of how the U.S. Military uses (Milstar/AEHF) Protected Satellite Communication Systems to perform operational command and control of forces. - Previous experience &/or in-depth knowledge of U.S. DoD satellite use and architecture in the European theater. - Strong written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated ability in making presentations to management and customer/operational personnel. - Ability to interface well with prospective users and convey system capabilities and advantages. - Familiarity with AFCPT developer and sustainment community. - Understanding of joint force communications operations. - Experience in interfacing with Combatant Command military personnel and senior DoD customers. - Five or more years of Systems Engineering experience. - Technical Master’s Degree.
