MET-I Description: The Missile Defense Agency Engineering Team – Industry (MET-I), also called the National Team, provides systems engineering solutions to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for the development and evolution of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The BMDS is an integrated, layered architecture that provides multiple opportunities to destroy missiles and their warheads before they can reach their targets. MET-I system engineers perform system-level assessments of the existing BMDS architecture and study the impacts of new technologies and concepts being considered for future BMDS architectures. The National Team engineers work closely with the MDA, FFRDCs, and various contractors and suppliers to shape the future of missile defense.
Missile Defense National Team – Systems Integration Engineer: This position reports directly to the BMDS Chief Integrator. This position enables the execution of system level integration of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). It includes understanding capability needs and critical system interdependencies at allocated integration points throughout the system engineering development process. This position supports the BMDS Integration team, including both National Team and government engineers, to plan for continued BMDS spiral development and adequate testing of new/updated capabilities. The successful candidate will comprehend, assesse and develop industry engagement(s) to include industry reach back to drive integration issues to closure from system concept through declaration assessments for all technical baseline behaviors, functionalities, capabilities and performance. Position functions to identify key behaviors and performance parameters, and develops associated plans, to support the MDA’s ability to perform timely integration, execute system tests, and perform system assessment activities. The position will work closely with the Systems Integration Focus Group and present MDA integration deficiencies.
Basic Qualifications Familiarity with large scale System of Systems and DoD weapons systems integration. Ability to develop, coordinate, and communicate horizontal and vertical integration plans; including ability to perform integration analysis across multiple sub-systems; understand relationship of intended behavior and requirements to test objectives; ability to work with system engineering tools to apply sound systems engineering practices to the development of a system integration plan that thoroughly documents critical system focus areas, interdependencies and technical/schedule disconnects.
Desired skills Experience with BMDS elements (e.g., DE, BC, GM and AB) and weapon system development capabilities is highly desired. System experience and versatility in several BMDS functional areas (i.e., BMDS related sensors, weapons, battle management and command, control, communications (including Link 16)) are desirable. Technical experience with BMDS Elements and their integration including: defining integration objectives, writing integrations plans and strategies, resolving technical systems integration issues and reporting integration results.
