The primary focus of the position will be system administration and engineering for development and tactical lab assets. Duties will vary, but may include any or all of the following:
-Lab Administration - Establish and administer multiple development and test environments. Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Assists with implementation of counter-measures or mitigating controls. Ensures the integrity and protection of networks, systems, and applications by technical enforcement of organizational security policies, through monitoring of vulnerability scanning devices. Performs periodic and on-demand system audits and vulnerability assessments, including user accounts, application access, file system and external Web integrity scans to determine compliance. Prepares incident reports of analysis methodology and results. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Recommend upgrades or improvements to established environments. The candidate will be on call when a computer system goes down or malfunctions, and must be able to quickly and correctly diagnose what is wrong and how best to fix it. Collaborate with the Lab administrators, engineering and test teams. - New Product Assessments - Performing analysis of Hardware, Software, Open Source and COTS solutions to determine the viability of installing them in support of the program computing environment. Standard processes and tools may be used to analyze the product. The security engineer will document their findings and make a recommendation on use of the product and specify any conditions of use that might apply to reduce risk.
- Exploration Initiatives - Participate in exploration initiatives or other special assignments, applying system engineering knowledge, policies, procedures and best practices to identify solutions for potential use across the WPI program areas.
Basic Qualifications - Required certifications: CISSP - Wide range of knowledge across IT disciplines including software, hardware, network engineering. Experience doing admin type work with one or more of the following IT technologies: Compute (bare metal, cloud), Storage, Middleware, OS (Windows, Linux, Unix), Database, Hardware, Virtualization Infrastructure - Solid troubleshooting skills for all lab environments and demonstrated use of various scripting languages - Ability to install and configure hardware and software in accordance with Lab Environment specifications - Effectively collaborate with Server / Storage / Network / Data Center / Facilities / Development / Tests / Integration and other Program teams including internal customers and project co-workers external vendors / suppliers / partners. - Effective written and oral communication skills. - Experience following standardized engineering life-cycle processes and tailoring processes when appropriate.
Desired skills - Current active DoD Secret Security Clearance preferred - Strongly prefer candidates who hold CCIE - Recognized certifications (CISM, CompTIA Cloud+, CEH, MCSA, Network+, Security+, others) - Linux & Windows System Administration, COTS/FOSS integration and configuration - Juniper and Cisco Network administration, Intrusion Detection Systems, Security Administration, Cloud Computing - Experience with Storage Network Technologies with Practical work experience in Installing, Maintaining, Monitoring, Troubleshooting and Managing development servers, Configuring and Zoning Storage Area Networks and SAN Switches and Server Administration.
