Lockheed Martin Loads & Structural Dynamics Engineer in Littleton, Colorado
Orion is NASA's new exploration spacecraft, designed to carry astronauts to destinations in deep space. Working as part of the Orion Loads and Structural Dynamics team, the Structural Dynamics Engineer will be responsible for planning, conducting and leading loads and dynamics analyses and tests to support Orion Program major milestones including the Exploration Mission 1 lunar flight test, the Ascent Abort 2 flight test, and the Exploration Mission 2 manned lunar flight test. Specific responsibilities to be worked will include: developing mathematical models (finite element models, reduced dynamic models, multi-body dynamic models, and water impact models); performing static and dynamic loads analyses; performing multi-body separation analyses; developing dynamic test inputs, instrumentation/data acquisition requirements, executing dynamic tests, and interpreting/correlating test data with structural dynamics models and simulations; producing structural dynamics engineering reports, technical memos, and data packages to support management, customer, and peer reviews; presenting structural dynamics analysis results to management, customer, and external customer consultants; developing work plans and leading teams to accomplish analysis and test milestones.
Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university and minimum of 9 years applicable professional experience or Masters degree and minimum of 7 years applicable professional experience. Professional experience in structural dynamic analysis and test of launch vehicles and spacecraft. Advanced Static/Structural Dynamics analysis capability using NASTRAN and finite element modeling using NX or equivalent is required. Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB for analysis and data manipulation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative group environment are mandatory requirements for the job.
Desired skills Expertise with structural dynamic analysis tools such as Simulink, ADAMS, ABAQUS, LS DYNA, VA One, Wave6, Computer Aided Design. Expertise in modern substructure modeling and assembly technology and component mode synthesis methods such as Craig-Bampton substructuring. Expertise in dynamic testing from component to system level and correlation of analytical predictions with test data. Expertise with test/flight data reduction techniques. Expertise in modeling, analysis and test of spacecraft mechanisms. Experience with human factors related to dynamic analysis and injury protection. A Master's degree or higher is strongly preferred for this position.
