Lockheed Martin Mechanical Engineer in Littleton, Colorado
The mechanical engineer will support the Orion Environmental Controls and Life Support (ECLS) team in the coordination and execution of design, development, manufacturing, testing, certification, delivery and integration of ECLS products. The primary function of this position will be mechanical design and will involve both structural and mechanism components for both flight and non-flight hardware. The mechanical engineer will collaborate with other Lockheed Martin departments such as loads and dynamics analysts, stress analysts, materials and processes, thermal analysts, mass properties, configuration control and quality engineering. The mechanical engineer will organize and lead design reviews and will be responsible for obtaining approval from the appropriate stakeholders and final release of the engineering.
Demonstrates an exceptional work ethic and be knowledgeable across a broad range of topics in the mechanical engineering discipline. The successful candidate shall possess good process focus and be able to intelligently apply standard processes to real-world applications. The candidate is required to be thorough, with good attention to detail and a solid understanding of documentation methods and requirements.
Basic Qualifications '• Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. • U.S. Citizenship • Proven technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle. • Fluency in mechanical modeling and drafting with CREO • Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) • Proven desire and ability to own technical challenges through solution • Experience with design/development of flight hardware • Experienced in interfacing successfully with customer representatives and demonstrated excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills • Passion for developing/deploying process improvements and new technologies to improve product performance and reduce cost • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance • Hands-on hardware experience
Desired skills • Prior experience as a spacecraft or subsystem/component CPE • Experience with Assembly, Test, Launch, and Operations • International trade / export control experience • 2 year minimum experience with releasing drawings in EPDM • Demonstrated team building and cross-organizational collaboration skills • Experience with Environmental Control and Life Support System Designs • Familiarity with the Orion spacecraft and customer • Experience with subcontract management • Knowledge of additive manufacturing • Familiarity with Model Based Engineering approach • Proficient with Creo/EPDM and working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 including GD&T and tolerance analyses
