Satellite earth observation (e.g. electro-optical or synthetic aperture radar) typically requires a high bandwidth communications link to deliver data that meets mission performance requirements of quality, quantity and timeliness. The successful applicant will analyze, optimize and develop new space-ground communications architectures that enable efficient use of radio frequency (RF) spectrum and increase information capacity to meet the rising demands of satellite earth observation systems.

Basic Qualifications Experience developing system architectures Experience developing satellite ground station systems Experience designing hardware and software Experience developing algorithms Experience with Internet Protocol (IP) networks

Desired skills Experience with User Datagram Protocol (UDP) protocol Experience with high speed data interfaces and protocols e.g. Rapid IO Experience with Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) Experience with image or video compression techniques e.g. the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) or Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) standards
