Lockheed Martin Local Area Network Engineer / LAN Designe - Newark, NJ in Newark, New Jersey

Local Area Network Engineer provides network/LAN design, implementation, consulting and leadership for data and converged communications infrastructure based largely on Cisco and F5 equipment. Act as a trusted partner in implementing the data network infrastructure to improve business operations and customer satisfaction. This position supports projects throughout the Enterprise and will require periodic travel to various company locations in New Jersey and Long Island.

•Act as the principal designer/engineer for networking systems and their subsystems. Utilize a thorough understanding of available technology, tools, existing designs and regulatory requirements (e.g., NERC CIP, SOX, FCC, HIPAA) policies and procedures; •Collect, consolidate and analyze business and technical requirements from key constituents. Recommend appropriate technological designs and solutions that align with the business requirements, the company’s technical strategy, and provides the most efficient and cost effective solution; •Work with carriers/vendors to design and implement various LAN architectures for various business units while maintaining high-available real-time data •Lead the delivery of the specific network solutions, including requirements analysis, internal proposal preparation, evaluation of supplier proposals, tool selection, and implementation planning; •Develop network/LAN architectures, perform network traffic analysis, predict LAN network bandwidth needs, and recommend modifications to the network configurations which reduces costs, maintains regulatory compliance and improves service; •Provide input to support budget planning and management. This includes adherence to all budgeting/spending guidelines for individual work area. •Assist in performing cost/benefit analyses and estimate cost for individual work and initiatives. Measure post-implementation return on investment; develop accurate forecasts, and identify cost reduction opportunities; •Prepare and develop rolling five year equipment lifecycle plans and budgets for the data and converged network infrastructure technical domains; •Work with software development teams, IT operations, and other IT areas as appropriate throughout the development, testing and implementation life cycle, including participation in troubleshooting of production issues; •Maintain currency in network technologies and industry trends, including participating in the planning and execution of critical patches and version upgrades; •Minimal travel to customer office locations within NJ and Long Island may be required. This is subject to change depending on the business conditions. •Act as a Project Manager on projects when required; and •Perform related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic Qualifications •Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline/equivalent experience and at least 4 years of diverse experience in network/systems/security design and implementation of data network infrastructure based on mostly Cisco’s and F5 Load Balancer equipment and technologies. •Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting data and converged network infrastructure including most of the following:, LANs and LAN Protocols, Wireless LANs, Wireless WANs, Network Management tools, Local and Geographic Load Balancers, LAN optimization, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, and other network related technologies in support of a large corporate network such as WANs and WAN protocols; •Strong analytical ability and experience developing business and technical requirements as well as problem solving and root cause analysis skills; •Strong communications, consultative and interpersonal skills, including oral, written and presentation skills, teamwork, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation, with the ability to work effectively with internal client from various business organizations and lines of business, and IT management and staff. •Self-starting with the demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts quickly •Cisco and F5 experience is a must
