Lockheed Martin Mechanical Engineer Sr in San Luis Obispo, California

This mission critical position will support the Fury Unmanned Air Vehicle program for Lockheed Martin Unmanned Integrated Systems (LM-UIS). LM-UIS is located in San Luis Obispo, CA (on the beautiful Central Coast). We are seeking a very talented and highly motivated engineer for this position. This exciting work will include design, development, testing and validation of small displacement air-cooled engines used on our Fury UAV's. Working with a small team in a fast paced environment, the engineer will use their engineering skills and previous experience to refine and optimize our aircraft propulsion system to meet challenging mission requirements. The engineer will recommend design changes to improve durability, reliability, maintainability, and performance as appropriate based on test results, industry best practices, trade studies, and relevant advances in technology. The engineer will apply extensive technical expertise to develop solutions to complex problems and will have in-depth knowledge of related disciplines. The engineer will work closely with vendors and suppliers to develop improvements that can be implemented on Fury. Keeping up-to-date with technological advancements for UAV propulsion will be an important in this role. Basic Qualifications This position requires a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical field and a minimum of 9 years professional experience. Demonstrated design experience with SolidWorks or very similar CAD software is required. An understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is required. Professional experience with the design/development of engines / propulsion systems is required. Strong verbal & written communications skills are required.

Desired skills An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical field may be desired for this position. Experience with 2-stroke air-cooled engines is desired. Experience with Unmanned Air Vehicle Systems is desired. Experience with Structural Analysis is desired. Experience with Failure Analysis is desired. Knowledge of Engine Control Theory, Combustion Analysis, and/or Performance Optimization is desired. The ability to deploy in order to train end users is required.
