OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY This occupation encompasses the complete fabrication of electronic cables and conduits where primary methods have been determined and the sequencing of detailed tasks is available from work instructions.
WORK PERFORMED Assemble multiple wires and connectors into complete cable assemblies with varying end terminations.
Strip and cut wires, sleeving and jacket material using hand tools and via setting up and operating automatic cutting and stripping machines. Insert contacts into connectors and crimp connector contacts using automatic and/or manual crimpers.
Perform soldering as required.
Clean, prime, crimp and torque ferrules prior to bending operations.
Make shield breakouts; terminate ends and route, twist and form cables, conduits and harnesses to established board layout and/or other instructions.
Prepare identification tags and sleeves in the specified method including the use of hot impression stamping machines.
Perform continuity, dielectric and voltage checks using equipment such as cable scan/digitrace, DITMCO, voltmeters and HyPot equipment.
Trouble-shoot such cable assemblies for the purpose of correcting wiring, fabrication or assembly errors. Perform rework wherein the operations are essentially the same as required for the work described herein.

Basic Qualifications Working knowledge of cable fabrication, assembly, routing and checkout.
Ability to pass certification requirements for soldering, crimping and assembly techniques associated with cable fabrication and assembly.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, procedure and assembly methods instructions, wiring and connector (or end terminations) codes and symbols.
Ability to use hand tools and machines used in cable fabrication.
Desired skills Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
