Lockheed Martin Additive Manufacturing Engineer in Woodland, Washington
This individual needs to be passionate about advancing additive manufacturing technologies. In the clean sheet start-up environment of Additive Manufacturing (AM) at LifePort, the role will have the unique opportunity to help shape the future of LifePort’s efforts in Additive Manufacturing.
The individual is responsible for developing the “know-how” both in the design and the manufacturing of products using additive manufacturing technologies in order to drive differential business solutions and results.
The candidate will report to the Manufacturing Engineering group. As the department evolves as a cost center, the engineer will help ensure that services are provided at a cost and quality competitive with external service providers.
Essential functions include:
Leads the operation of the state-of-the-art 3D printing equipment, ensuring highest level of safety for self and others, high percentage utilization, and efficiency of the additive manufacturing processes.
Develops and documents the design rules, operational procedures, process optimization approaches, and quality assurance processes to standardize Additive Manufacturing (AM) within LifePort.
Capture costs associated for AM and work with Sales, Finance, and Operations to establish [internal and external] rates using cost models and trade studies.
Work with Quality and Certification groups to gain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to print “run-rate” parts as applicable.
Provides application engineering to business unit customers ranging from assessing the viability of product concepts for AM to optimizing the concepts to exploit the full potential of AM.
Partners with the business unit customers in ensuring that the 3D printed parts meet the functional requirements of the end customers.
Leverages, communicates, and organizes cross-departmental teams of engineers for development of new applications, testing, or other related project initiatives, while utilizing Lockheed Martin’s “eForum Resource Groups and Communities of Practice” information sharing structure.
Leads the development and delivery of virtual and hands-on training of AM concepts, technologies, and applications.
Provide project management, coordination and scheduling for print projects to include, but not limited to, ordering materials, servicing, and arranging maintenance.
Actively seeks out various educational and training opportunities to keep current and demonstrate continuous growth.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mechanical, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Three years of experience in CAD using both 2D and 3D CAD to create, design, and manipulate solid models, assemblies, layouts, and detail drawings.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a continuous basis without company sponsorship.
This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Desired skills Ability to travel 5-10% of the year to domestic and international locations
Research and analyze material properties and behaviors for application of advanced additive technologies
Knowledgeable of additive post-processing operations (e.g., machining, stress relieving, etc.)
Knowledge of quality and certification requirements in regulated manufacturing industries (e.g., AS 9100, FAA, ISO/TS16949, and ISO 9001)
Track record of generating creative design solutions
Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
Must have excellent communication, planning, negotiation and organizational skills and the ability to independently manage a heavy workload
Engage various engineering groups in full product design cycle, including conceptualization to market release, costing, and project schedules
Effective interpersonal communications, proven ability to lead, critical thinking, capable of acting strategically while achieving results
Aware of environmental and physical hazards associated with additive manufacturing technologies, ensuring appropriate PPE devices are accessible and utilized at all times to safeguard themselves, others, and the environment
