Lockheed Martin Staff Project Engineer / Energy Storage / Cambridge, MA in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Lockheed Martin Advanced Energy Storage is commercializing a new class of grid-scale energy storage systems. We are seeking a full time staff-level engineer to lead teams in the execution of special projects. This position is located in Cambridge, MA.
The ability to communicate effectively with scientists and engineers, as well as non-technical stake-holders is paramount to this position. The project engineer will be a primary point of contact and represent the company to outside organizations, for example with customers, suppliers, partners, or regulatory agencies. The project engineer will also lead execution of projects internal to the company. Experience leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams in a product development environment is required.
Other duties include: • Develop strategic project plans with clearly defined scope, deliverables, and timelines. • Coordinate the execution of project plans. • Evaluate performance against key technical requirements. • Communicate project status to a wide audience.
Familiarity with the deployment of grid-tied equipment, especially energy storage systems, is desired, but not required, as is familiarity with electrochemical systems, such as fuel cells, batteries (esp. flow), or electrolyzers. Prior experience in applications engineering for grid-scale battery systems would be ideal.
Relocation: Relocation/Housing Stipend is possible for this exciting position. Cambridge is just across the river from Boston and is located in eastern Massachusetts. Cambridge is home to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. Cambridge, is also the birthplace of many startup companies due to the high amount of brain power produced by these schools and also from nearby Tufts University, Boston College, Boston University, Brandies University, Wellesley College, Babson College, and Northeastern University. Nearby communities would include scenic coastal towns such as Swampscott, Salem, and Marblehead. To the west are communities such as Belmont, Brookline, Watertown, Waltham, Lincoln, and Concord. Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. If you like living in right in the city, or out in the suburbs, or near the ocean, our location will offer ample choices for you. Where can you get to from Cambridge and Boston? Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.
Basic Qualifications • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline. • Project management experience in a technical field. • Strong communication skills.
Desired skills • 8+ years of experience in a product development environment. • Experience with the deployment of grid-tied equipment. • Experience with electrochemical systems such as batteries, fuels cells, or electrolyzers. • Experience leading compliance efforts (ex. UL, CE, NFPA).
