The Payload Launch Sites Support Services (PLSSS) Program provides all launch processing support functions for Office of Space Launch (OSL). The program’s two primary operating locations are Vandenberg AFB, CA and Cape Canaveral AFS, FL. Key elements of the PLSSS program scope include satellite launch processing, satellite transport operations, satellite propellant loading operations, and satellite processing facilities O&M, clean room operations, and safety and environmental services.

Responsibilities of this entry level Mechanical Engineer will include:

• Planning, procedure development, generation of work authorizing documents, and real-time operations and oversight • Operate and maintain facility fluid systems to include an oxidizer vapor scrubber, fuel incinerator, process piping, and fluid system components • Support fueling and pressurization of spacecraft • Support corrosion control • Investigate and troubleshoot anomalies • Prepare work orders to disposition system problems • Implement upgrades and design projects • Prepare and update drawings, plans, and procedures • Prepare purchase requisitions • Perform special tests and investigations • Work closely with hazardous liquid propellants and high pressure gases • Coordinate with range sampling, laboratory, and propellant service contractors • Receive liquid propellant pressure vessels, sample liquid propellants • Disposition hazardous waste • Complete and maintain training required to obtain Certified Test Conductor Certification.

Must be a self-motivated, critical thinker willing to work in a Matrix-type environment. Position deals with toxic propellants and caustic chemicals.

The applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Candidates for this position must have US Citizenship and ability to obtain TS/SCI w/Poly Clearance is required for this role.

Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree in a related engineering/technical discipline with 2 years of professional experience; or 0 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree.

Desired skills - Experience in developing technical documentation including System Configuration Documentation and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams

  • Internship/experience with facility maintenance, component maintenance, or other process technical exposure

  • Chemical or materials specialization is a plus

  • Internship/experience with planning, scheduling, design, or project implementation is a plus
