Description: The research and development department at Lockheed Martin - Santa Barbara Focalplane is currently search for qualified Research Scientists to join our team focused on developing next-generation infrared barrier photo-detectors spanning from near-IR to long-wave IR.
The team member selected for this entry-level position will perform semiconductor wafer characterization, as well as test infrared sensor focal plane arrays and test structures. Responsible for documenting testing, and presentation of results to other team members.
Typical R&D responsibilities also include leading IRAD projects, providing technical direction, financial oversight, and customer interface for monthly presentations and/or final written reports. Work is performed on multiple IRAD and CRAD projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

The Locale: Goleta is a city in southern Santa Barbara County, California. Goleta is part of the central coast region of California and offers lots of great scenery and is a great place to live and to raise a family. The region is known primarily for agriculture and tourism. Major crops include wine grapes, lettuce, strawberries, and artichokes. Goleta is known for being near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, although the CDP of Isla Vista is closer. Much of Goleta is considered to be a quiet suburban community while Santa Barbara tends to attract most of the tourists and the area's residents. Goleta is about 8 miles west of the city of Santa Barbara, along the coast (the coast runs east to west in this portion of southern California). Where can you drive to from Goleta? Goleta is 2 hours northwest of Los Angeles. San Francisco is about 5 hours to the north of Goleta. Las Vegas, NV is about 5 hours to the northeast.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
The successful candidate shall demonstrate familiarity with semiconductor device physics, as well as possess hands on experience in semiconductor characterization techniques.
Experience in MATLAB coding and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation creation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team and build effective relationships..
Must have the ability to obtain a secret security clearance so must be a US Citizen.
Experience with infrared detector characterization at focal plane array (FPA) and/or test structure (PEC or TS) level, and familiarity with focal plane array operation principles is desired.
Familiarity with molecular-beam epitaxy growth and/or III-V semiconductor processing techniques is a plus.
Active TS/SCI clearance
