Lockheed Martin Vehicle Mechanic A in Jupiter, Florida
Perform a variety of widely diversified teardown, overhaul, modification, repair, replacement and maintenance service operations on any division automotive equipment, including fire truck’s, ambulances or other emergency vehicles.
Plan and perform any mechanical operations required to locate malfunctions and restore Division automotive equipment and rolling stock to proper operating condition.
Work from description of complaint or malfunction to locate source of problem; diagnose difficulties in reciprocating and turbine engines, electric motors, transmissions, electrical and fuel systems, brakes, linkages, steering systems, etc., utilizing check-out instruments and/or referring to manufactures specifications, shop manuals, service bulletins, etc.
Disassemble, repair, reassemble or replace defective units, components or systems; incorporate modifications as required.
Fabricate and/or machine required parts, if not otherwise available.
Weld broken parts if warranted, perform body repair and painting duties where needed.
Test drive vehicles to verify repairs, make any adjustments as required.
Respond to emergency calls for service for operating troubles encountered on the road.
Perform routine and cyclical maintenance on electric, gasoline and diesel fueled truck’s, cars, service vehicles, pumps, generators and compressors, and including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) and emergency equipment.
May be assigned to off-plant or remote site locations to provide all automotive and AGE repair and maintenance service, where the group supervisor or foreman is not immediately available for direction in emergency or unusual situations.
Service and repair fork lifts, transporters, tow motors and other battery powered vehicles; replace wiring, relays, contracts, etc., turn down and undercut commutators, and perform any other duties to repair electrical systems; charge batteries, remove and replace dead or damaged batteries as required.
May direct one or two lower grade mechanics or helpers on large or difficult jobs.
Refer only emergency or very unusual situations to foreman or group supervisor.
May be assigned other Maintenance Department duties, usually or a less skilled nature, when unusual or emergency situations arise, or as directed by supervision.
Requires well-rounded knowledge of motor vehicle mechanisms and repair procedures, and ability to work from manufacturer’s specifications and schematic diagrams and the interpretation of complicated assembly drawings and technical charts.
Also requires knowledge of decimals and fractions, operation of precision measuring and checking equipment, and use of automotive mechanics’ hand and power tools.
Requires certification as Master Automotive Technician or equivalent training.
2 to 3 years of experience required.
US Citizenship is required.
Successful candidate is required to have and maintain a current valid driver's license.
Successful candidate will be required to operate a powered industrial vehicle (PIV).
Successful candidate will be working in and around a hangar/flight line area, exposed to loud noise, and will be required to wear hearing protection.
