Will work as part of an engineering team to design and analyze structures, enclosures and motion control systems for a variety of fixed site, military vehicle, shipboard and airborne platforms. Will develop and analyze designs for structural design performance and survivability in harsh military environments. Based in an Integrated Product Team environment, assignments will include new design development and/or modifications to existing products. Will be expected to work collaboratively with other mechanical engineers as well as representatives from manufacturing, quality, drafting and other engineering disciplines to achieve low cost and highly producible designs.
Responsibilities may also include:
Mechanical hardware integration and testing at a vehicle or major end item level of assembly
Management of key weight objectives for the deployment system and formulation and execution of plans to minimize system weight
Creation of 3D system models and layouts
Preparation of assembly BOMs and the timely release of procurement and fabrication drawings
Must have experience in the following areas of structural design
ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Design Modeler or ANSYS APDL
PRO/E or CREO computer aided design tools
Other Related Experience & Knowledge:
Welded, riveted and bolted joint design and analysis
Materials selection and corrosion control techniques for aluminum and steel alloys
Durability and fatigue life estimation analysis
Teamwork skills shall include the ability to work within a multi functional team and with external suppliers to develop design solutions within program cost, schedule and technical objectives
Must possess good presentation and communication skills
Must be proficient with the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheets as well as documenting work performed for review and archiving
The desired candidate should have knowledge and experience in design and fabrication of mechanical assemblies through all phases of development including design, integration and testing. Additional desired experience includes:
Direct experience with structural design, integration and deployment of payloads on land based military vehicles
Knowledge of MIL-STD 810 structural testing requirements
Frequent work with both metallic and nonmetallic fabrication suppliers
Experience with the creation and execution of test plans
Specification of aluminum and steel alloy structure weld requirements
Familiarity with data acquisition equipment operation and experimental stress analysis
Knowledge of static and transient dynamic analysis techniques
Familiarity with vehicle dynamic simulation tools
Direct Customer interface
