Lockheed Martin Software Engineering Associate Manager in New York

Description: Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training (MST) is seeking a highly motivated multi-disciplined engineering manager to join the software engineering department for the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Navigation Program. This position involves technical planning, staffing, performance assessment, feedback, cost and risk, and supportability analyses for a total system solution. This manager will provide leadership and functional management for approximately 15-30 engineers in a Software Engineering group. This manager will be responsible for providing the skills, tools and processes to develop, optimize, and document the Navigation Software System.

Functional responsibilities include: 1) Assignment of work tasks, providing performance appraisals, career planning, and training development required for direct reports. 2) Conduct staffing and work force planning to support current and anticipated projects, including interviewing and hiring personnel as required. Coordinate staffing requirements closely with Chief Engineer’s team. 3) Define, communicate and coordinate staffing priorities as well as funding requirements with the appropriate project leads. 4) Act as a stakeholder for programs ensuring domain area is appropriately represented. 5) Review and approve functional proposal inputs including BOEs and scopes of work. 6) Own, execute, and status department level initiatives. 7) Change agent in responsible area with focus on affordability and advancing technical capabilities and innovation.

As a member of this Software Engineering Department, qualified candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit. Candidates will self-initiate and promote innovative ideas and solutions to technical challenges, align new concepts to customer missions and requirements, follow customer opportunities and respond rapidly to solicitations aligned to department strategy, communicate concepts and ideas with influence to gain stakeholder buy-in, and develop sound business cases in support of qualified pursuits.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering/ technical discipline from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10 years or more of professional experience; or 8 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. Considered an emerging authority in discipline.

Besides possessing rock-solid domain expertise in software engineering and a passion for excellence, the candidate must possess: (1) strong innovative problem solving skills, (2) strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with customers, team members, and senior leadership, (3) strong knowledge of software development processes and metrics (4) demonstrated experience and ability in leading teams (5) a full understanding of other related disciplines (6) earned value management experience

Desired Skills:

Experience or familiar with the following: T9001B or any of its variants; Inertial Systems; System and Software Architecture; Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA); Model-Based System Design (MBSD); Agile System Development Lifecycle; Rhapsody, Clearcase or equivalent tool; working on a mid-size to large program with a significant set of requirements; in-depth knowledge of Lockheed Martin processes and procedures, including System and Software Engineering Metrics; Control Account Management (CAM); Earned Value management (EVM); Proposal Development

An active Department of Defense secret or higher security clearance
