Description: Determines sequence of operations, lays out, sets up and operates all types, including computer-controlled, of spot, roll, seam and portable welding machines, using special attachments as required, to weld new metals and materials, developmental and complex production assemblies, where complete information is not readily available, sequences change or vary considerably and/or tooling is inadequate or not provided, and it is required to exercise a knowledge of the physical characteristics of metals used, and of the spot-welding specifications, in order to ensure maximum accessibility and minimum warpage and creepage; lays out and makes locations to secure coordination of assemblies, working to station, water, center, butt and chord lines on engineering documents; makes complete setup of spot-welding machines to perform all operations within their capacity, in welding new metals and materials, developmental assemblies and/or complex production assemblies; collaborates with Maintenance, Inspection, Engineering and other authorized personnel in qualifying spot-welding machines prior to their release for production operations; works with authorized liaison personnel in resolving problems relevant to the work described herein.
Trims, files, reforms, fits and assembles parts; improvises and fabricates shop aids or adapts standard tooling; records welding procedures, setup and quality control information as necessary to perform the job duties described herein.
Must possess a minimum of two years of spot-welding experience or equivalent.
Must be able to demonstrate a knowledge or have successfully completed training in Blueprint Reading II.
Must be able to work any shift.
Performs rework of the level of difficulty of the operations described above.
