In this position, you will help the company figure out how much it should pay for the parts and labor that it uses in its aircraft, and also work with stakeholders to make Sikorsky and its suppliers more efficient. Success in this position will require curiosity, the ability to build accurate models, a willingness to listen and learn about manufacturing processes, the ability to engage with people that you have never met, and the discipline to consistently document and improve processes. As we are a small department with complex and challenging work, we are looking for hard-working generalists, not specialists.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manage yourself and your relationships with colleagues while working on multiple simultaneous projects involving a large number of participants; [Effectively manage oneself, one’s time, relationships, and projects, 10%]
2. Learn how to effectively use multiple digital systems to gather, manipulate and record data; [build and use databases, business intelligence, engineering, accounting, and ERP / MRP software, 10%]
3. When you cannot find the data that you need on a computer, track down the people who can answer your questions, and convince them to help you; [apply investigatory abilities and practices, build social networks, 10%]
4. Learn enough about how a particular part is manufactured to be able to explain to others the details of a particular operation; [become a technical expert, be able to clearly communicate technical concepts, 15%]
5. Build models that accurately forecast material use, labor consumption, and non-recurring engineering requirements for aircraft and aircraft components, based on the data that you collect; [create detailed and accurate engineering and financial models, 15%]
6. Organize large piles of jelly beans, as we don’t like the banana-flavored ones; [apply attention to detail, demonstrate persistence, 10%]
7. Write narratives that explain your models and estimates, consistently document process, and create audience-appropriate presentations; [communicate clearly and concisely, 15%]
8. Identify opportunities by which Sikorsky and its suppliers can reduce costs, engage the subject-matter expert (SME) community to verify those opportunities, and then create business cases and coalitions to implement those opportunities; [Working with others to identify, validate, and implement improvements, 15%]

1. Love of learning - you’ve got an advanced degree, because learning is what you do. You only stopped studying because of external circumstances or because you wanted to avoid poverty.
2. Advanced engineering / systems thinking – you’ve got numeric skills, the ability to visualize or otherwise understand complex systems, and you think optimization problems are fun. You can analyze 2nd or 3rd order effects. You might have completed coursework or have a degree in engineering, applied physics or some other similar discipline.
3. Life of the party – you’re gregarious and love meeting new people. You might have worked as a consultant or have experience in sales.
4. Passion for aviation – you’ve always been crazy about things that fly. You might have a pilot’s license.
5. Algorithms – you’ve written software and learned multiple pieces of complex software in your life. People come to you with questions about a piece of software that you use. You’ve created databases. You might have completed coursework or have a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
6. Statistical firepower – you understand descriptive statistics very well, and have had prior projects that had significant statistical components. You may have completed coursework in statistics, either theoretical or applied.
7. Familiarity with accounting – you are not flustered by the language of business. You understand the purpose and the problems associated with overhead allocation. You might have completed coursework or have a degree in accounting or business administration.
8. Information management - You have formal experience in the science of arranging, structuring, and displaying information. You might have experience in user interface design, or you might have an advanced degree in library science, information science or a similar discipline.
9. Qualitative data - You have experience or interest in a discipline such as history, anthropology, or sociology that requires the assimilation and integration of large amounts of qualitative information, marshaled to support or contradict a hypothesis.
Qualifications & Skills – Required
You must possess these qualifications and skills to be considered for this position.
1. A broad sense of curiosity – you’ve got to love learning and be interested in a wide variety of topics, because you’ll need to learn a lot about a wide range of disciplines to be successful in this role.
2. The ability to not be overwhelmed by large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information – particularly during your first 3-6 months, the volume of new facts is tremendous.
3. Basic systems thinking – you need to be able to understand how the many different pieces of a system fit and work together. Building an aircraft involves thousands of people, processes, and systems, and you’ll need to figure out how the parts that you’re looking at fit together.
4. Mild to moderate extroversion – you must like engaging with people, including people you don’t know at all, and people who have a background that is substantially different than your own. RMS has 20,000 employees, and you’ll often need to engage coworkers whom you haven't met before.
5. Some interest in aircraft – you’ll be looking and thinking about them all day. If they’re not interesting to you, you will do poorly in this work.
6. Software aptitude – knowledge of particular software is less important than demonstrated capability to quickly learn new and complex software. That said, if you don’t know MS Windows and Office very well, this is not the job for you.
7. Quantitative modeling – you have a demonstrated ability to create complex numeric models, although the discipline involved is not important. You have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a discipline that required mastery of quantitative information.
8. Attention to detail and performance to deadline – your former coworkers and/or classmates could / did / do count on you to deliver high-quality work on time.
9. Perseverance and resiliency – like all work that involves uncertainty, our work is occasionally frustrating. If you find it intolerable to see your hard work come to nothing, this is not the job for you.
10. Ability to Travel – you have no restrictions or limitations that would prevent your traveling to visit and/or inspect Lockheed Martin and supplier factory facilities (primarily within the United States, but occasionally in other countries.)
