Lockheed Martin Environmental Test Technician in Sunnyvale, California

Description: IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.


Use space simulation and environmental test equipment designed to simulate environmental conditions encountered in space flight to perform tests and collect data on hardware performance or characteristics where guidance and instruction are available.


Where guidance and instruction are available, and in support of senior technicians while working with progressively less guidance and instruction as time on the job increases during performance of duties of which the following are typical:

Setup equipment and test specimens to perform tests and obtain test data on items ranging from small operating mechanisms and material to complete vehicle segments.

Operate and monitor equipment such as, but not limited to high vacuum, high fluid pressure and cryogenic systems, high pressure load control system, and closed loop vibration control systems and solar simulation apparatus, to carry out required tests.

Work to written test requirements or oral instructions and engineering information. Apply a working knowledge of electronic technology and fundamental knowledge of equipment characteristics and operations.

Modify and fabricate test aids, fixtures, monitoring devices, specialized apparatus and similar items as directed. Use tools, equipment and information sources as required.

Setup and operate heat flux simulator, data systems, electronic controllers, Instrumentation (strain gages, accelerometers, thermal couples, etc.) and recorders, gauges, high pressure fluid dynamic stimulators and radiation sensors.

Operate equipment to simulate ground handling as well as flight conditions in structural hi-bays and in various chambers such as anechoic, thermal, vacuum, high pressure fluid and acoustic.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires knowledge of electronic technology equivalent to a two-year program presented by junior colleges and technical institutes. This occupation normally leads to assignment as an environmental Test Technician. An employee will not be held in this classification for a period greater than two years. Must possess all certifications as required.

And /or the practical experience equivalent to the Air Force Occupational Specialty / Military Occupational Specialty / Navy Enlisted Classification codes in the related fields.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

This position will require the ability to work first shift.
