We are seeking a Laser and Electro-Optical Engineer with expertise in pulsed and CW lasers, to support Directed Energy and active sensing programs. This position reports to the Optical Payload Center of Excellence, through its DE Department. You will be the responsible engineer to specify, procure, integrate, and test illuminator systems for a range of programs, including DE weapons, active sensing systems, and long range optical communications payloads. Your initial assignment and primary focus will be on the development and integration of high performance illuminator laser systems for DE beam control systems. Successful candidates for this position will:
• Have hands-on experience in the acquisition, installation, and operation of solid state lasers (slab, rod, fiber gain media), specifically in the NIR/SWIR wavelength region across a range of output power levels (>50W).
• Have working knowledge of spectral and coherent beam combining techniques for fiber lasers.
• Have experience working on active tracking and wavefront sensing systems
• Develop requirements and specifications for laser systems and generate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to laser suppliers
• Review designs on the beam control optical path, and guide in the layout, packaging and testing of the beam control system
• Support laboratory and field testing of prototype and developmental hardware
• Contribute to program reports and presentations
• Support white paper and proposal generation

Strong laser engineering foundation. Experienced with laser specification development, procurement, selection, installation, alignment, checkout, safety, and control. Experience with pulsed lasers. Experienced with laser operations in laboratory and on-platform/fielded/on-site environments. A combination of design and hands-on experience with High Energy Laser beam control, long-range laser radar, or long-range laser communications systems. Knowledge of and experience with federally-funded electro-optical system development programs. Working knowledge of high energy laser systems.
High Energy Laser Beam control systems engineering, integration, and test experience. Broad exposure and contribution to integrated Acquisition, Tracking, and Pointing solutions to augment strong laser background. Experience with air and space platforms for DoD laser applications. Experience with CW lasers. Experience working on active tracking and wavefront sensing systems.
