The Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) program provides all launch processing support functions for the Office of Space Launch (OSL). The program’s two primary operating locations are Vandenberg AFB, CA and Cape Canaveral AFS, FL. Key elements of the PLSSS program include satellite launch processing, satellite transport operations, satellite propellant loading operations, and satellite processing facilities Operation and Maintenance (O&M), clean room operations, and safety and environmental services.

As a member of the PLSSS team at the Vandenberg AFB location, the Engineering Design Checker / Drafter will be called upon to examine engineering drawings and related documents for soundness, efficiency, and simplicity in design; completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to design/drafting standards and design specifications.

Primary job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: checking new and revised detailed drawings and assemblies by applying established drafting, design, and engineering standards and practices, conferring with design personnel to resolve drawing and design discrepancies, and creating and maintaining engineering drawings documenting designs of complex Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and satellite processing facilities. Additionally, selected candidate must have the ability to analyze proposed changes of product design to determine effect on related products and systems.

You will work alongside the industry’s most talented mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers. The ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams is essential. A 9x80 work schedule is an option.

The applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Basic Qualifications • Knowledge and understanding of ASME standards • Knowledge and understanding of component and assembly design practices • Proficient with CAD software (AutoCAD preferred) • Experience with Configuration Management, Configuration Status and Accounting Tools, and Change Management Processes • Experience with identifying Configuration Items (CIs), implementing Change Control, and Configuration Audits • Must be able to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail. • Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently, work proactively, to achieve results without close supervision. • Must be a United States citizen • Must be able to obtain and maintain an elevated U.S. government security clearance.

Desired skills • Advanced AutoCAD proficiency • Formal AutoCAD training from community college, technical training/vocational training school • Familiarity with: Creo Elements Direct Modeling and Visio • Experience with implementing hardware and software relationships • Familiarity with or experience writing internal operating processes and procedures, command media
