This occupation requires the assembly, test, functional check, and systems level maintenance and repair of plant/facility Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated electrical, electro-mechanical equipment/systems, including integration with missile launch operations, flight facility support and related products.

Assemble and set-up equipment following engineering instructions and production illustrations such as: architect, trade practice, blueprints and manufacturer’s specifications, service manuals, bulletins, sketches, drawings, applicable state municipal and underwriters specifications, codes and ordinances, or other written and technical data, whether complete or incomplete, or other engineer-approved written or technical data. Work from oral instructions for the purpose of assignments and direction. Determine the sequence of construction and plan job by translating preliminary plans to on-site exact dimensions.

Check out, maintain, adjust, modify, troubleshoot and draw correct conclusions from limited technical data or instructions; make engineer-approved changes; isolate problems and repair or replace failed components in air conditioning, ventilation, vacuum, heating, breathing air compressors and refrigeration systems.

Test, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and operate plant/facility/AGE (Aerospace Ground Equipment) HVAC equipment.

Maintain and repair air conditioning, ventilating, vacuum, refrigeration, CRAC (Computer Room Air Condition units), heat pumps, compressors, heating systems and associated hydraulic, pneumatic and humidity control equipment. Repair or replace crank shafts, bearings, pistons, valves, condensers, coils, thermostats, humidity sensors, pressure valves/regulators, compressors, thermocouples, burners, ducting, baffles, oil pumps and other mechanical units.

Charge systems with refrigerant; check and test for leaks; set and adjust controls and regulators. Fabricate venting, ducting, stainless steel tubing, hoses and fittings, as required. Calibrate HVAC systems controls and make required adjustments after major overhaul operations. Perform installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, such as hot water and chilled water tubing and pipe systems supporting the above systems. Install and maintain low voltage electrical control circuits, fixtures and accessories. Perform mechanical and electronic operations necessary for the installation, repair, maintenance, dismantling and disassembly directly related to the above systems.

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess associated licenses or certificates required by law (EPA Certification).

Must have ability to work at various heights on gantries, towers and poles; to work in confined areas.

Knowledge of general principles of HVAC systems; working knowledge of HVAC systems, repair to component level, standard shop practice, procedures, termination and testing. Must possess ability to use shop mathematics including trigonometry. Normally requires two years of technical training beyond high school, plus three years of directly related experience.

Ability to use tools and equipment necessary to perform work described herein. Recertification in the use of these tools and equipment may be required to retain this job classification.

Basic knowledge of and ability to use computer systems.

Must be a United States Citizen.

Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

Ability to lift 25 lbs.
